We have a major responsibility to contribute to society through public engagement - which is why we take the Light Express into schools for free. We are committed to sharing our knowledge, resources and skills, and to listening to and learning from the expertise and insight of the different communities with which we engage. We are committed to developing our approach to managing, supporting and delivering public engagement for the benefit of staff, students and the public, and to sharing what we learn about effective practice.
We currently perform the Light Express show at the University of Southampton's annual Science and Engineering Family Day during National Science week, seeing up to 1,000 people a day. You are very welcome to attend. We have in the past performed to community groups and are open to requests for performances to large groups.
For smaller groups wanting hands-on educational activities we offer workshops in Optics and Holography. We have previously given workshops at museums, art galleries and science centres, and to community groups such as Rotary, the WI, Brownies, Scouts and Home Educated students. Please contact us if you'd like an activity for your group.
